Wanderer Session #22: The Anderson Council Filmed in New Brunswick, New Jersey Spring 2010 New Brunswick is changing faster than anyone can imagine. Houses, record stores, bars, coffee shops, they all crumble while new office buildings take their place, rising and reproducing over the ashes of so many memories. Peter Horvath is from The Anderson Council. A band that has been in New Brunswick for many, many years. I was intrigued at how many places he named, old sites he pointed that once had some musical fossil of OLD Brunswick. He's a wonderful guy. A talented and hard-working musician. Peter just had his second child not too long ago. I wanted to do a good job in making this session. As good a job as I can anyway. Someday, his children will see this. He played on top of the Ferren Deck. He played on the train platform in the middle of strangers waiting for the next train. Some annoyed, some grateful, some confused, some apathetic. Wherever we walked that day, Peter couldn't help but point to a construction site, a parking lot, a fire hydrant, random spots where places like the Melody Bar once stood. It was ironic too, that we had beers after the session inside the Court Tavern, the last remaining venue New Brunswick has. He spoke of old bands like the Bouncing Souls and I spoke of the new crop like The Delfields and Screaming Females. I don't know. Too much change goes on in New Brunswick nowadays. Too fast. Old things die and new things erupt so quickly in New Brunswick, that even I was a relic now. Of course, we had the usual conversation about what could be better. "There should be more venues," "People should care about music more," all this usual stuff that might never happen. We're not in the "Rockin' Brunswick" era of the 70s anymore. Whether things will ever change for the better of the art scene, who knows? It's not a job for me anymore. I don't have the heart for it anymore. When I was filming Peter Horvath on the train platform, I couldn't take my ears away from the roar of the trains coming and going. Very sad. The road is calling to me. It's plucking the strings of my heart to be somewhere else in the days that will come.
