I read this idea recently on social Media and it got me pretty excited- George Couros Offered this: “What if every teacher tweeted one thing a day that they did in their classroom to a school hashtag, and they took five minutes out of their day to read each other’s tweets? What impact would that have on learning and school culture?” This idea came up again in my teams 20/20 meeting this week and the more it’s been talked about the more powerful the idea feels to me! Here’s why: As exciting it is to be a teacher in this digital age of Pinterest and Teachers Pay Teachers and Instagram and blogging, and as grateful as I am to have the ideas and experiences of teachers all around the globe at my fingertips, MY personal truth is that the teachers who I have always found to be most inspiring to me, and most influential to how I run my classroom are the ones who work here in THIS building, in OUR school serving OUR kids. YOU! So in hearing a theme emerging in our various culture talks about wanting more transparency, collaboration, and positive affirmation, I’d like to offer this one small step toward that goal. I hope you’ll join in sharing in one of the two easy ways listed below: If you do not have a twitter account but would be open to ME popping by and taking a picture or two to tweet on your behalf, please simply reply “yes” to this email so I can add you to my list and I will contact you back to make sure you don’t have kids that can’t be photographed or times you’d like me to avoid coming in. You can still read the hashtagged feed WITHOUT having a twitter account, and I’ll make sure you know how to do that! If you already have twitter, please consider tweeting one thing you’re doing in your classroom this week and hashtagging it #WeRMH (We Are Memorial Hall) this hashtag is, up to now, completely unused so it will be all ours! Then take 5 minutes to scan the hashtag to see what others have posted.
