Dreaming by Degrees is a multimedia documentary project created to explore the hopes, dreams, fears and challenges of today's incoming college students. We chose to start where we could: an eight-week New Student Seminar at Century College in Minnesota. Eleven students were enrolled in the class, each as captivating and complex as the next. We got to know the students by participating in and recording class exercises, conducting approximately one-hour recorded interviews with each student, and listening to recordings we asked students to make at home. The Metaphor Series is one product of that work. Inspired by the StoryCorps animated series, and the work of Minnesota animator John Akre, we created an animated visualization of each student's response. We hope you find the students' words, and their ideas, illuminating and inspiring.
