Allison didn't really know what to do with her life anymore. It seemed that the unspoiled idealism that had underscored her late teens and early twenties had all but evaporated in a slew of menial occupations she took for the sole reason of paying the rent and feeding herself. And often times she failed to accomplish even that. She wondered whether her blighted hope was a result of the circumstances thrust upon her, or if surrendering one's enthusiasm was just another part of getting older. Priorities had changed. Her 18-year-old self would have been disgusted.
