AS Film Studies - Film Noir

This piece of film formed part of my AS Film Studies coursework. The brief was that it had to be in the style of a film noir piece. With only a 30 minute training session on the absolute basics of how the camera could be used to shoot video, I set to work later that evening. This was a real learning curve for me, as not only did I 'direct' the film, I'm also the star (please excuse the bad acting), editor and sound man. All this technology at my disposal (the camera, the iMacs, the editing and sound software) was like nothing I had ever encountered before. However, I applied myself, sought help where I needed it, and produced a piece of film which, although not the best, I can certainly be proud of for a first attempt. Being a contributing factor to my AS Level, I had to make sure that not only was the overall tone in keeping with the general aesthetic of the film noir genre, but that I took particular care with regard to the key areas that I would be marked on such as the Mise en Scène, the Cinematography, the representation, the genre, the narrative and the sound. For example, the song that features throughout the video is the same piece of music that featured in the 1974 Noir film "Chinatown"; hence a subliminal link can be formed between my film and that of the noir genre. There are many other little connections to the film noir genre in addition to this. Many thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you enjoy it.
