Moving Through Love

In the spring of 2010, a group of Latinx older adults from the Erma Cava Senior Center in the South Bronx collaborated to develop, script, perform, and shoot a short film. This foray into the performing arts was one of Pregones/PRTT’s signature “Seniors In Motion” workshops, this time led by actor, singer, and multimedia producer YARANÍ DEL VALLE. Reflecting on the idea and lived experience of LOVE in all its richness, participants tapped deep into their individual and collective memory, creativity, wit, and flair for visual poetry. Directed master trainer JORGE B. MERCED, “Seniors In Motion” multi-week workshops distill Pregones/PRTT’s longtime commitment to lifelong learning in the arts, and what today is known as creative aging. Starting in the early 1980s, the company has worked with older populations to validate and unleash their creative capacities through a wide range of arts and wellness activities. Workshops often include a tailored mix of body and voice warm-ups, trust and memory games, role playing, storytelling, writing, prop building, and performance practice. The making of "Moving Through Love" was also a project of the Worldwide Theater Carrousel (WTC), an international multimedia platform for theater education, creation, and communication (worldcarrousel.org). Filmed in Spanish with English subtitles, the film was screened before live audiences by partners in Antwerp (Belgium), Lima (Peru), and Tembisa (South Africa). Produced and presented by PREGONES/PRTT (pregonesprtt.org).
