We listened and tried to apply to our lives what Jesus said in our Gospel lesson for the day, "I tell you; unless you repent, you will all likewise perish." (Luke 13:3, 5) The perishing He is talking about is an eternal separation from God if we die in our sin. Repentance is that turning around and away from sin, confessing our sins, and hearing God's Word of forgiveness with which He welcomes us home. And to think all of this is a gift from His hand won for us by the death and resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ.
