Day 2: Bunbun's new treats

The day after we got Bunbun, Nick went to PetSmart after work and bought some nice things for him: Timothy hay, proper bunny pellets, some safe bedding/litter, a water bottle, and a ball. Bunbun was delighted with the hay, and for the next couple days he could be seen munching busily on it at any given hour. Even Mom, who has little interest in animals, thought he looked so cute gobbling it up. Apparently Bunbun's previous owner rarely played with him, because he seemed to have no idea what to do with the ball Nick gave him. He quickly lost interest in it and went right back to doing what he does best: munching hay and dropping pellets. This was the day I began to develop a powerful attachment to a bunny I had first seen as nothing more than a slightly interesting animal. I used to think rabbits could never compare to dogs or cats, and I had no idea why anyone would want one as a pet. But when I cleaned part of Bunbun's cage at Nick's request, I felt an unexpected sense of fulfillment. I ended up changing all of Bunbun's newspapers out of a sudden desire to do more for him. Little by little, as I interacted with him more and learned a great deal about bunnies online, my distant regard for him transformed into something profoundly protective and caring. Nowadays I spend hours with him in the garage and do everything I can think of to help keep him happy. I had quite a few beloved pets growing up, but I never felt this way before since I wasn't directly responsible for them.
