The Third season started by paying our homage at the Gurdwara for our TV show “Foodie Comes To America” with gratitude and a spread of culture. A special segment was created, as you can see, to respect one of the rich prevalent cultural influence. A Gurdwara (door to the Guru) is the place of worship for Sikhs. People from all faiths and walks of life, are welcome to a Sikh Gurdwaras. Each Gurdwara has a Darbar Sahib where the current and everlasting Guru of the Sikhs, the holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib is placed on a Takht (an elevated throne) in a prominent central position. The Raagis recite, sing and explain, the verses from the Guru Granth Sahib, in the presence of the holy congregation. All gurdwaras have a Langar hall, where people can eat free vegetarian food. They may also have a library, nursery, and classroom. A Gurdwara can be identified from a distance by tall flagpoles bearing the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag. The well-known Gurdwara is the Harmandir Sahib, also popularly known as “The Golden Temple” at Amritsar, Punjab in India. This Gurdwara is one the most important in Sikhism. Sikhs are obliged to visit this gurdwara at least once in their lifetime.
