23 students from various countries talk about aspects of their refugee/migrant journey to Australia. They reflect on their experiences, family and friends, their travels and how they settled into school in NSW. These conversations will help teachers discuss with their classes from Yr 5 to Yr 12 the deep-felt traumas and ordeals that the students experienced in their quest for a better life. Suggestions for use: Empathic tasks Select two or three of the video conversations for listening in class. • Discuss and compare the experiences of the students in the videos, • Compare these experiences with the life experiences of the students in class. • Discuss what students in the videos would have felt on their first day at school in Australia, • Discuss the language skills acquired by the students since arriving in Australia, • Debate the advantages/disadvantages of living in Australia.
