A letter to Mr Chen part two: Letter: reproduced from the lyric of the song called ‘Sorry’ from my favorite Chinese actress and singer Yanci(Michelle) Chen. Animation: is made from reproducing van Gogh paintings. I choose some landscape paintings as my environment based on the story of my letters. Some creatures live in this world and they are created from the floral paintings. I manipulate the visual and add motion to those paintings. Those letters are read with text to speech with background music in the animation. The background music is reproduced from the song 'Sorry'. The voice is not mine because I am not able to ‘tell the truth myself’. Chinese Ci: will be shown on the two sides of the screen with the handwriting calligraphy style in motion. I wrote those Ci in 2013, it is the Classical Chinese poems that are reproduced from Chinese Ci (poetry) in Song Dynasty. Address: WAY OF DOING, WHAT MAKES ARTS Challenge of new reproduction The old and the new: History is a linear line, but art history is a spiral line. We can't escape the past, then we can make use of the past. Reproduction is not escaping from history, whilst reproducing, something gets lost from the original, so we need add something to recuperate the lost. The old is tradition. When time passes, we tend to forget the traditional. We need to use and rethink it. The new is technology. New technology brings more possibilities to us. We are able to stay in different fields to make artworks. Different media could influence and permeate the message we want to tell profoundly. We should choose media with a certain reason. With the new technology, we could make the sayable and the visible support each other. WAY OF THINKING, WHAT ARTS MAKES Challenge of true feeling We should have feelings for everyone we met or everything we saw. There should not a distance between us. People should not isolate each other. We should not be afraid of telling our true feelings. Our true feelings could be love, hate, angry, sad, happy and most of them come from our memories. Artworks could be a way of expressing and remembering those feelings.
