The Sheriff’s Department unveiled a memorial for fallen deputies on Tuesday, May 10th. Since 1850, nine deputies have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. This tribute is two-fold, with a public display of a bronze sculpture outside the main office building. Inside the lobby is a more personal tribute with the photos and names of fallen deputies. Sheriff Bill Gore said: “Today we honor them. We remember them and we dedicate this memorial as a way to say that we will not forget. Their names are etched in bronze; they are also etched in our hearts-as reminder that we have a job to do. And we will do it-whatever it takes and whatever the cost.” We shall never forget their service and sacrifice.
