The Visible & Invisible is a media art that delves into the relationship between the living and the dead across the Hungry Ghost Festival; it is when the spirits of the dead are believed to roam the mortal world on the seventh month of the lunar calendar. The gates of hell are opened during this time for spirits to seek food, offerings, and entertainment. The air is usually thick with incense smoke as people congregate to burn their offerings and hosting of “Getai” (Songs Stage) were decorated with vibrant colours. As the two worlds collide it offers a vivid perspective on the festival through the study of incense smoke and coloured lights.
