Soft Sunny Steeps - Big Sky Resort

For most resorts, spring means soft snow, pond skimming and ripping moguls in bright neon jackets. At Big Sky it means things get wild. All the wet snow begins to stick to the steep rocks and lines that didn’t exist become skiable. Areas that were roped off now have gates and a sign out sheet. This is typical of Big Sky, but this March things were different, with the record amount of snow in Montana this year, a whole new collection of lines became ready to ski. I was lucky enough to explore this terrain for 3 and a half days last week and it was epic. I was able to ski rarely opened terrain such as the Upper Pockets, Gullies 4-6, T.U. and I even got to ski Little Couloir, Big Sky’s steepest run. I also dipped into some freeride classics like Dead Goat and the Equals Sign. The edit concludes with a secret lower mountain stash that few will recognize but many will want to ski. Where was I skiing?? Now you know ;) 0:01 5th Gully (unmarked) 0:22 4.5 Gully (unmarked) 0:34 Dead Goat 0:46 Equals Sign (unmarked) 1:00 Little Couloir (unmarked) 1:47 High Pocket #1 (unmarked) 2:08 Tits Up (unmarked) 2:39 Don’t Tell Mama 2:57 Option Cliffs, Siberia (backcountry)
