PREY was my graduate short film, that earned me a diploma in Design in 2010. Initially, I developed the concept, storyboarded keyframes and set up an animatic scene in 3D on my own. Then I met with fantastic composer Moritz Laßmann. The idea was to give the music not only supporting functionality, but let its dynamics drive the visuals of the film. In an alternating manner, he would then compose music that I accompanied with visuals and vice versa. Shot by shot, we arrived at the final edit – a story with film and music truly fused into an aesthetic unit. The second half of the year-long process was to recreate the animation for the big screen. I developed a hand-crafted look and painted, modelled, textured, rendered and composed everything. In the meantime, Moritz polished his composition, arranged it for a live orchestra and finally recorded it at Dr. Hochs Conservatory in Frankfurt. Additionally, he composed the tango music „Por Una Mosca“, which frames the story and gives it a final spin. I’m super grateful for all the help and support I recieved for the project and still proud of the result, even many years later!
