Sustainable Huguenot is the effort of Huguenot Memorial Church (HMC) to create an enduring financially and environmentally responsible church for generations to come. For more than a century, Huguenot Memorial Church has served as a cornerstone of Pelham, NY and demonstrated a standing commitment to carrying out faithfully the church’s mission. Today however, HMC is projected to spend more than $1,300,000 in total energy costs, over the next ten years. Their oil-based heating system is expensive, outdated and deteriorating. Fuel prices are increasing and highly volatile. The underground oil tank poses a significant environmental threat. The sanctuary lacks air conditioning and the organ has deteriorated beyond its useful life. HMC must better utilize financial and natural resources by implementing a sustainable solution that decreases fossil fuel consumption, generates energy cost savings and maximizes use of their facility. The Sustainable Huguenot solution includes the removal of the oil tank and burners, installation of a geothermal heating and cooling (HVAC) system and improved containment and distribution. This solution will eliminates environmental risk, significantly reduce heating and cooling expenses, enable year-round use of the entire facility and provide a suitable environment for a replacement organ. HMC is compelled to create a sustainable church: to wisely manage finances, to be responsible stewards of the earth’s natural resources and to strengthen and empower lasting worship for generations to come.
