HOUSE UNTIL THEY FIND A HOME**** Imagine seeing the cutest puppy or kitten playing in the park. Now imagine seeing that puppy or kitten facing certain death because they don’t have loving homes. The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter is here to ensure that all animals are given the right to life. At the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter thousands of unwanted, abandoned or abused animals are helped each year. Some of these animals are dropped on the Shelter’s doorstep, rescued from natural disasters, and others have been removed from abusive situations. We are here for the sick, elderly and for families of a deceased pet owner. The demand for helping animals such as these is ever increasing. Since receiving charitable status in 1999, the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter has adopted out thousands of pets that were abandoned, unwanted, relinquished or needed to be rescued. The Shelter has found loving homes for all of these innocent animals, but the work is far from done. Each pet coming into the Shelter is health checked, receives all necessary medical attention and vaccinations by a qualified veterinarian and is either spayed or neutered (when of age). There are over 200 pets on a waiting list to come into the Shelter and it receives 80-100 calls per day from people who need to relinquish their pets for one reason or another. The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter paved the way in Manitoba, being the first registered charity No-Kill animal shelter. NOT funded in any way by the government, or government agencies, it is strictly a non-profit charity. It relies solely on the generosity of the general public, people and generous opportunities like the Aviva Community Fund. Operating a “NO-KILL” animal shelter means that any animal coming into the Shelter, stays at the Shelter and is cared for until a loving home can be found. There Is No Time Limit On Their Stay. Some rescued animals stay for a day, some a week, some a month and some for a year or more. The expenses of running the Shelter are enormous. It is difficult to put a dollar amount on what it costs per day to keep the animals healthy. At any time an animal can come into the shelter needing a thousand dollars’ worth of medical treatment. Puppies can come down with an illness that spreads through the shelter like wild fire. With the Shelter always being full to capacity, the expenses continue every month even when the donations don’t. It is greatly appreciated of those individuals and corporations that contribute on a monthly basis. Unfortunately, there are not enough donations to offset these costs. The need is immediate to keep funds coming in so the Shelter can continue with its much-needed work. Until you have held a tiny puppy in your arms as it kissed your face with slobbery puppy breath and felt their love. Until you have held an injured or sick animal in your arms and soothed their pain. Until you have looked into the eyes of a tired and aged animal and felt their wisdom, you will never understand why we do what we do. 50,000 dollars to us means that we can get medical help for that many more distressed animals. It means they will be warm and fed until they find their home. It means that we can build the pens required to house more animals than we are currently able to. It means that the community will continue to have the option of adopting from an animal shelter that does not believe in euthanasia as a means of population control. What it means for the community is that we are here for them and their pets when life changes and disasters happen. It means that, a terminally ill person can die knowing that the animal they love will live to be loved by another family. It means that senior can rest easy knowing that the pet that has been their cherished companion for years will be ok, when they are moved into a nursing home. The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter will always be here as a safe haven for animals in need. Please help us be their house until they find a home.
