During the weeks October 31 and November 7, Salaam Shalom: Report on Palestine/Israel will feature two reports. The first, produced by Press TV’s “In Focus” program, explores the history, suffering and steadfast resistance of the Palestinian refugee community to ongoing displacement and historical ethnic cleansing, and the potentially negative consequences to their international rights, including the “right of return,” by the Palestinian Authority’s bid for statehood at the UN. Our second report features a brilliant presentation by Israeli historian Ilan Pappe on Zionism and the crime of colonialism, and on why it is critically important for solidarity activists to study history rigorously and to adopt a political lexicon that properly identifies Israel as a settler-colonial and racist state. Pappe’s remarks were given at a Palestine Solidarity Conference in Stuttgart, Germany, in November, 2010.
