Pennington Education Presents: Barack Obama Academy Student Project 2010 This video shows the final project of a student from Barack Obama Academy who participated in a Pennington Education Media Literacy Workshop. Derived from a "Being 13" essay, Alejandra Cervantes project focused on how important family is. Her story is about a young girl who overcame a difficult challenge with her family members, and ends up on the better side of life because of it. The goal of the workshop is to promote media literacy through minimal resource filmmaking. Using techniques such as animation and voice over, each student produced a project that was focused on what is important to them about being 13. Derived from written essays, the students each picked one topic from their paper and made a short video about it, which was then edited together with interviews from the students.
