GLISA Program manager David Bidwell fills in for Sarah Nicholls at Michigan State University to describe her GLISA-funded project, "An assessment of the implications of climate variability and change for Michigan's tourism industry." Project synopsis: This project will assess the potential impacts of climate variability and change on the winter sports and state parks in Michigan. Researchers are interacting directly with the winter sports industry and state park managers to identify vulnerabilities and options for adaptation. The study features a survey connecting research with stakeholder observations and needs, asking ski area managers about observed changes in winter conditions and current and planned adaptation strategies. The project will help determine what kinds of climate change information and research would be most useful for winter sports area operators.
