In addition to the intro animation for Dan Hagar, I also did all of the NPC mission animation for him. For most of the NPCs in the game we could not do full animation for all of their dialogs mostly due to memory constraints. Instead we would animate a few key lines and then break that into gestures which could be reused, or create seperate gestures entirely when needed. The animation I did for Dan also served as the basis for Captain Marshall's dialog. Each animation has to return to an idle animation and the character performs accent idles at random times to give them life when the player is not interacting with them(not seen here). Lipsync and eye tracking is handled in-game, though we are able to bring the auto lipsync into Maya for viewing purposes.
