Colored smoke explosion test in Houdini. Peak voxel count was around 200 million. Rendering was a challenge but after going through many engines these were my conclusions (and welcome any suggestions): - Corona was the fastest and most stable, and also supported independent resolution for density and color grids which was significant in terms of disk space and memory use. - Vray actually looked abit better but kept crashing due to a verified bug. - Redshift lacked multiple scattering as far I as understand and couldn't get the same colored look but I'm not familiar with this engine so it could very well be ignorance. - Octane doesn't have direct support for colored volume grids but even with a workaround it couldn't fit on the vram. - Mantra with gilight was ok but not of the same quality and speed as Corona. - Renderman was also a good option but not nearly as fast.
