SHS48: Remington R1 Commander On this episode of the Second Hand Showcase, we are looking at a used gun that is actually not very old. The Remington R1 Commander 1911. Now I am not saying this gun is anywhere near as nice as a full or semi-custom 1911. But what I am saying is this gun is so spec’ed out very well. It’s got a good finish with lots of 1911 features that come standard. Basically everything a Commander should have and nothing it should not. The ONLY thing I can kick this gun on is the lack of a flat edge on the rear sight for one handed malfunction clearance drills. But that is more a sign of the times instead of the gun itself. Details as follows: Make: Remington Model R1 Commander 1911. Caliber: 45ACP. Case: original case, 2 magazines. Barrel: 4.25” bushing and plug. Trigger: Videcki style trigger. Safety: ambidextrous. Front strap: checkered 25lpi. Sights: night sight front. Novack style in back. Grip panels: half checkered. Extractor: traditional GI. Overall this is a very well appointed gun. 20 years ago this would’ve been a full house custom build. Today, this is a discount 1911. How times have changed!
