I recorded this track as a play-along practice piece, purely for critique by my fellow members on http://www.scottsbasslessons.com It is not intended for publication, or wider circulation. It is not for profit. This song, “Funny How Time Slips Away”, was performed by one of my favourite Soul singers, Al Green, who originally released it on his (1973) Album, “Call Me”. It was originally composed by Willie Nelson, way back around 1961. It has since been recorded by many various great artists … Johnny Tillotson (1963); The Supremes (1965); Brook Benton (1966); UK version by Georgie Fame (1966) on his Album “Get Away”; Elvis (1971); Brian Ferry (1974); the complete list is longer, these are just a selection. I chose to play along on my (2013) Sadowsky Metro UV70 four string fretted Bass. It is fitted with a brand new set of #RSB 45105 round wound Nickel strings, from the long established Italian string maker http://www.gallistrings.com I played this Bass in ‘Active’ mode via its two-channel onboard Sadowsky preamp, which provides boost only to the Bass and Treble bands. I set the onboard Pan Control at 50%, equally taking sound via the neck and bridge pickups. The only sound effect is my fingers. This recording is in the key of F. I purposely played my own Bass line within the lower 7 frets of the instrument, because I wanted to create an ‘old style’ deep Bass sound, which I feel suits this great song particularly well. This was again a one shot take. I am pleased with the intonation, tone and quality of the sound. That was what I wanted to achieve. I routed it via my Bergantino B|AMP, which I used as an inline preamp, direct through an XLR cable, to my Focusrite Clarett 4 Pre USB Audio Interface, which is connected to my Intel i7 powered, Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64 bit PC. The Audio track was recorded direct on Ableton Live 10 Lite recording software. The Video was contemporaneously captured, via my Canon EOS M50 Camera. The finished recording was then downloaded from the camera’s memory card, onto my PC. Where it was posted direct to Corel Pinnacle Studio Video Software, version 21.5. The Audio track was subsequently added and synchronised with the video footage. Enjoy ;o)
