On Wednesday, January 7, 2009, Halle was diagnosed with a Brain Stem Tumor. She was 15 years old and a high school sophomore. The diagnosis came after about a week of experiencing headaches, blurred vision, numbness and feelings of dizziness when walking. Up until now, Halle's health history had been excellent, which is why her symptoms, even in such a short time, were of concern. A biopsy procedure on Tuesday, January 13th, confirmed a malignant, aggressive tumor. Halle has shown incredibly amazing strength... Can you imagine in a little over one weeks time going from playing club volleyball, Wii karaoke and games with family during the Christmas break to learning that you have a stage IV Brain Tumor named: Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) and Anaplastic Astrocytoma (AA)? Halle fought a tremendous battle but she was called to a better place on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 and now is court side with her Lord, our God. In just a short few months she has influenced thousands from all over the globe. Among those who were deeply inspired by Halle’s strong will, tremendous smile and huge heart are her nine teammates and members of the Austin Performance Black Mamba 16 volleyball team. One only has to read the comments posted by these young women on Halle’s Page to understand how they have been so strongly influenced and inspired by Halle, even those who only knew her for four months of their young lives. This video is posted in dedication to Halle Brent who would have been laughing harder and louder than any of these girls if given the opportunity to be with them in Dallas at a recent tournament. The pink shirts bear the "h" heart in her honor and were worn at the tournament. Halle wanted them to have fun and enjoy life just as she has lived hers. Please keep Halle and her family in your prayers and thoughts, as well as Halle's friends and teachers at McCallum High. This will have to do for now until the time comes when I have the opportunity to sit court side and watch her play on God’s team!
