How did Tel-Aviv rose out of the old Arab city of Jaffa, yet convinced itself that it miraculously sprang out of the sand? How did it adopt the image of a Bauhaus capital, and how did it deal with the eclectic, chaotic favela-esque reality that evolved around the edges of that image? Tel-Aviv had many incarnations from idealist utopia to decadent bourgeoisie, from “Lighthouse to the world's nations" to hustling neoliberal metropolitan. Following the growth path of the city, from old Jaffa outwards and back, this documentary series goes through the planning attempts and moments of chaos that shaped the city. Since the series dealt with the making of a city it made complete sense to make use of “making-of” aesthetics. A time-lapse piece focusing on bit by bit creation of a mockup city, climaxing with a finished installation: scaled down, abstracted architectural model of Tel-Aviv-Jaffa including landmarks that had significant historic and cultural value, especially ones that would capture the spirit of the time they were built in.
