SEWA-AIFW originated from a desire to meet the unrecognized and unmet needs of the Asian-Indian Diaspora in Minnesota. SEWA means “to serve” in Hindi, thus, the Non-Profit Corporation was created in 2004 to serve and promote “Total Family Wellness” for the Asian-Indian population. Sewa-Aifw is the only culturally specific social services agency serving the immigrant and refugee population from India,Pakistan,Bhutan,Nepal,srilanka,Bangladesh,Trinidad,gyana,and the carribeans. Total population of 38,000 plus . Committed to the purpose of providing “Total Family Wellness”, SEWA- AIFW (Asian-Indian Family Wellness) has been fulfilling its mission by focusing on: · Training volunteers sensitive to ethnic and cultural needs · Engaging the efforts of leading community partners e.g., Asian Women United, Minnesota Department of Health, Capi, Ramsey County Department of Health, Alexander House, Refugee Immigrant Women for social Change and several others. · Raising awareness by organizing and participating in community outreach and partnership-building events · Encouraging economic freedom and empowering families through programs concentrating on job training, computer literacy, senior issues, domestic violence, and substance abuse · Offering Immigration assistance · Implementing a health initiative by providing education, culturally sensitive referrals and resources, workshops, and access to low-cost or free health consultations through our Health Fairs In addition, SEWA-AIFW launched a 24/7 Crisis Hot-line, sponsored by Many foundations which offers confidential, language -accommodating assistance towards legal, medical, and social support, access to shelter, or, any service necessary to mitigate crisis and trauma. SEWA-AIFW has been blessed with many successes and has realized great rewards by enabling members of the Asian-Indian community to overcome domestic abuse, victimization, immigration hurdles, and health issues.
