TNT- The Closer and Falling Skies promo (Portfolio Creative Work) I really took my time to review some of the rebrands done for TNT as well as the original promos created for "The Closer" and "Falling Skies". I like the simple and bold typographic approach seen in the new 2012 rebrand of the network which can be viewed here https://vimeo.com/40175690. The idea to create my promo versions actually came about while watching "Falling Skies" which is one of my TV favorite series. I initially wanted to create a promo that was far different from what has been seen on the "Falling Skies" season promos. However, I decided not to because I didn't not want to take away from what viewers already visually understood as being apart of the show since season 1. Instead I chose to recreate and expand of the "Falling Skies' logo and earth scene. My focus was the movement of the logo. I felt more could be done to sell the logo that was create specifically for the show. I also wanted to create a space scene that was more detailed and vivid in color. In terms of color, the original space scene is a little dull for my liking. The Closer promo was created using 3D projection in Cinema 4d. Communication Strategy This project was created to strengthen my visual communication and media design skills. It is used in my graphic design portfolio as student experience, and it also serves as a visual teaching tool for others. The project goals included, integrating 2D and 3D animation to produce realistic shots as well as utilizing typographic systems to tell the story. I did not take part in the filming. I only take credit for all other elements such as, sounds, video edits, typography, color palette, and graphic manipulation. This project was created for the purpose of commenting and criticism, in effort to stimulate public discussion.
