A dance performance based on the afterimage effect. Optical illusion in movement. Concept: Jorg Schellekens and Janne Eraker Choreography: Janne Eraker Dance: Ans Kanen and Ania Majcher Light and sound design: Jorg Schellekens After Image started from a concept by Janne Eraker (choreography) and Jorg Schellekens (light design) to find a synthesis between dance and light. It was developed in the first half of 2010 with dancers Ans Kanen and Anka Majcher and first presented on the Open Dans festival. It was hosted by LP II Space for Urban Culture in Rotterdam. The afterimage effect itself is described as ‘an image continuing to appear in one's vision after the exposure to the original image has ceased. One of the most common afterimages is the bright glow that seems to float before one's eyes after looking into a light source.’ This effect is an physiological phenomenon which experienced when watching this piece ‘in real life’. Because it’s a physical reaction in your own eyes it’s almost impossible to reproduce in video. After Image was kindly supported by Gemeente Rotterdam, dienst Kunst en Cultuur and Stichting ter Bevordering van Volkskracht. Produced by stichting Sanne in co- production with LP II Space for Urban Culture (www.lp2.nl) For info and bookings contact post@janneeraker.com
