Kenya safari holidays : Impala (Aepyceros melampus) The name impala comes from the Zulu language meaning "gazelle" it is a medium-sized African antelope seen very often on safari in Kenya and East Africa at large. Only the male, referred to as the ram, has lyre-shaped horns. The female, referred to as the ewe, lacks horns.Territorial males round up any female herds that enter their grounds, and will chase away bachelor males.
