For the commercial, I want a very fun, light and 70’s type of feel to it. A very simple concept that people will have a laugh with. The music, is a piece from the 1971 film “Forbidden Photos of a Lady Above “ by Ennio Morricone. It gives the commercial a very “retro” and fun vibe that is more to my style. Since I was shooting the film digitally, on a Canon 7D, I knew the film would have a very “modern” look, which is why I thought the “retro” vibe of the film would work great to make it rememberable to the watcher. In the scene where Katie notices that Blair is eating ice cream, I want the camera move in, just like they would do in 70’s genre pieces. The type of zoom would be familiar to today’s youth because it was used through out Quentin_Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” Start off the commercial with an every day situation that people can put themselves in and then having the humor come from that. It’s also important to end the commercial on a good “punch” that will stick out with watcher. I know it is a very popular misconception that women will fight with another girl for a guy and clothes. This idea plays with that by having the girls have a stare down, ala Spaghetti Westerns or Asian kung fu films… then the punch line is that the girls end up having a playful catfight and Katie ends up winning the ice cream. The final shot is of Katie going “gangster” on Blair as she glotting.
