Do enough pressing and it's ALMOST an inevitability. Almost. In my experience, you can't rely SOLELY on military presses to get to your 1/2 bodyweight press. Movements like pushups, dips, one-arm pushups, heavy Turkish Get Ups, and of course plenty of upper body pulling all plays a helluvan important role. But once you've lain down your foundation with these, any intelligently written pressing program can help you break that badazz barrier. Apart from that, one of the things that I've found to be indispensable is foundational human movements that help you to actually connect every disparate part of your body one to the other. Why is this important? Because if you can't connect your body into one solid mass of muscle, you won't be hitting that 1/2 bodyweight press.
