Justification for Wanderlust A Web-Series Exploring the Reasons We Travel Episode 1, Mari's Story: Poetically Curious Presented by: ExOfficio, World Nomads, South Australia Mari Gray has been on the road for three years: Japan, Belize, Ecuador (Galápagos), Colombia, Guatemala, and South Australia. Her father is a photojournalist turned teacher and her mother a textile artist. Once a year, her family would go to a different place around the world; effectively, she was born into a life of travel. Mari is a quiet person on-camera--so I wrote a poem about her justification for wanderlust based on conversations over Mezcal and few beers at Café No Se in her current base of Antigua, Guatemala. The poem was recited by Lola Meyniel, a kindred spirit who left her home in the south of France at age 19 to travel around New Zealand in a van for 1 year. She's now backpacking through South America. Director/Writer: Gregg Bleakney Director/Editor: Yann Mourier Original Score: Daniel Spils Traveler: Mari Gray Narration: Lola Meyniel -------- Do I really need to explain why? I’m restless Or to justify My wanderlust Do I really need to explain why? I’m out in the world Why I need to see Because this addiction to life isn’t a sickness I’m sure It’s just me -------- I want to feel I want to touch I want to meet new people I want to learn I want to put down the map: and get lost. -------- Do I really need to explain why? I’m out in the world Why I need to see Because this addiction to life isn’t a sickness I’m sure It’s just me
