When God calls you a ‘son’ what does that metaphor encompass? When Jesus stood before His 1st century audience and told them a parable about two sons and their relationship with their father, his audience had cultural ideas about ‘sonship’ that differ from ours today. That means, for us to ‘get’ Jesus’ expectations and promises regarding our ‘sonship’ in God’s family, we need to do some cultural detective work. Brad Brinson 10/11/2009
