The King approaches! Hail to the King! Hosanna in the highest! Prophecy is a necessary thing. It gives shape to information. It confirms significance and design and ordination to what might otherwise be dismissed as coincidence, chance, or fate, but our King is not a happenstance – He is a Lamb slain before the foundation of the world. Our King is a Lion Who will someday vanquish forever the one who stalks us like a roaring lion looking for whom he may devour. Our King is a servant Who laid aside His privileges to model to us the intimate ways of sonship, the selfless ways of service, & the gentle ways of mercy. Our King is not a result of luck – our King is a result of Love… Prophecy tells us all this. It is YHWH’s mercy via prophecy that warns us the Anointed One will be a servant Who suffers, so as to make us aware and not quite as prone to mistake a wannabe for Him while missing His appearing altogether or dismissing it on a dark, cross-dominated afternoon when our own peculiarly idiosyncratic expectations aren’t quite met to our satisfaction. It is His Word to us via prophecy that exclaims that He will come and establish a Kingdom forever – not on this earth or of this world (by His own admission), but in the hearts where He will write His laws on our beings and in which He will take up residence. i hate to break it to all You "Left Behind," novel-reading Calvinists, but He’s not coming back to rule in Jerusalem – He is already ruling in You. It is His promise to us by prophetic utterances that establish us as holy people, sons with an inheritance, & ambassadors of the Messiah who function as cabinet-level ministers of His reconciliation to souls that are alienated. Really, we shouldn’t be surprised at what was said about Him before He came in humility, arrived in Love, & Lived in submission. It’s what the prophets told us would happen. And so, it came to pass….
