This short video highlights the Armfield Flow channels & Research flumes that enable engineering students to study the fundamentals of Hydrology & Hydraulics at University or College higher educational levels. Many of these flow channels are installed in research laboratories around the world and have been instrumental in the further understanding of tsunami, erosion, sediment transfer, flooding and maritime vessel design. The Armfield S6MkII, a glass sided tilting flume, has in particular, been used on many UK television channels including the BBC and UK Channel 4 documentaries, to demonstrate the topics of earthquakes, freak weather conditions and the resulting and devastating effects of Tsunami or "harbour wave". It is said the research and knowledge from these has given us a better understanding of these powerful natural forces and hopefully will lead to improved defences against such catastrophic events in the future, to the end of saving lives.
