László Tőkés, a reformed minister from Transylvania, Romania, sparked the Romanian revolution in 1989. HIs unwavering stance against the neo-Stalinist dictatorship of Nicolae Ceausescu inspired thousands to revolt against the oppressive communist regime (1965-1989). A leader of the Hungarian minority, Tőkés has become a symbol for the fight for religious and minority rights behind the Iron Curtain. He is currently a Member of European Parliament (from Romania) and he was previously the Vice President of the EP. He was also the bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Romania.
