At the turn of the last century my great grandparents settled with other Italian immigrants in "The Crow's Nest", a small community of squatters on the other side of the tracks in Copper Cliff Ontario. This short film is composed of super 8 footage from family gatherings in the 1960s in their home. The music is from the opera Nabucco, by Giuseppe Verdi. The song (Va, pensiero) is from a scene where a chorus of Hebrew slaves lament to God for the return of their homeland. A nostalgic interweaving of narratives on identity and home.
