This is an excerpt from "Houdini Seance," a music-theatre-video work designed and directed by Andy Kirshner, and co-composed with percussionist Michael Gould. The visual and sonic metaphors of the seance -- contacting the "other side," spirit rappings, automatic writing, musical instruments that play themselves -- are the inspiration for this piece, which is something of a cross between a concert work, music-theatre, and a magic act. The piece features real-time manipulation of video images projected on Gould's drum set, as well as both original and found audio.
