Matalan Pay Up

Local campaigners gathered at Brislington Matalan in Bristol last night to demonstrate against the retail giant’s refusal to pay compensation to the victims of the Rana Plaza factory disaster on April 24th last year. Campaigners met to temporarily shut down shopping and call on the company to pay £3m in compensation to victims and families of those killed. 1138 people died and over 2000 people were injured when the factory, which manufactured clothes for over 27 European and North American brands, collapsed in Bangladesh last year. Posed as customers the activists filled their trolleys with Matalan clothing and in a coordinated action refused to pay for the goods they had bought. Pledging only to pay for their loot once Matalan pay the compensation that they owe. For more info see: cleanclothescampaign/ranaplaza
