A fuel depot caught fire on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro on Thursday, causing multiple explosions as it rapidly spread to nearby homes.<br/> <br />Residents living a few kilometres away from the fuel depot first spotted the fire which consumed at least six tanks of fuel and lubricant.<br/> <br />According to local authorities, firefighters quickly contained the fire to a four block area, by cooling the surrounding area, and believe they will be able to completely extinguish the blaze once it has consumed the burning fuel.<br/> <br />The fuel depot is located in the neighbourhood of Duque de Caxias, located just north of the city of Rio de Janeiro.<br/> <br />It is still unclear how the fire was started.<br/> <br />No injuries or casualties have be reported in the immediate area which was evacuated by local authorities.
