ROUGH CUT ONLY - NO REPORTER NARRATION<br/> <br />Japan's coast guard released footage on Friday (May 31) showing an estimated 500 dolphins fleeing at least three killer whales.<br/> <br />The video, filmed from a coast guard patrol vessel off the coast of Nagasaki prefecture in southern Japan on Thursday, captured the dolphin pod "being followed by killer whales and making a life-or-death attempt to escape", Japan Coast Guard's 7th Regional Headquarters said.<br/> <br />The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) estimates there are at least 50,000 killer whales, or Orcas, in the wild, hunting a wide range of prey including fish, marine mammals, sea turtles and cephalopods.
