Mel Brooks, whose comedy credits include "The Producers" and "Young Frankenstein," received the American Film Institute's Life Achievement Award in Los Angeles.<br/> <br />The 86-year-old's six-decade career began as a drummer and stand-up comedian in upstate New York.<br/> <br />He is only one of 11 people to win all four major awards, which include four Emmys, three Grammys, three Tonys and an Oscar.<br/> <br />Actor Billy Crystal said Brooks is a major contributor to American humor.<br/> <br />SOUNDBITE: Billy Crystal, actor, saying (English):<br/> <br />"I've loved him for 52 years since I first became aware of him as Mel Brooks, and longer than that because he was writing for Sid Caesar, who I've loved since 1953 when I was five years old. So, that's why. His movies are hilarious."<br/> <br />The 41st AFI Life Achievement Award tribute premieres on U.S. cable channel TNT on June 15 and on Turner Classic Movies on July 24.
