Coalition talks lift hopes of ERT staff

The standoff continues at Greek state TV broadcaster ERT after the government abruptly pulled the plug on the channel a week ago.<br/> <br />Employees, who have occupied the headquarters, are still broadcasting via the internet and smaller TV stations.<br/> <br />They hope government coalition talks will lead to the re-opening of the channel - and have vowed not to budge until it does.<br/> <br />TV presenter Chrissa Roumelioti said public television should never be shuttered since it protects the public interest.<br/> <br />Supporters camped outside since the closure agreed, with this man claiming the decision would lead to the overthrow of the government.<br/> <br />But official plans to open a new channel called NERIT to replace ERT seemed to have the go-ahead with the appearance of this new TV frequency on Monday.<br/> <br />Government chiefs say ERT was inefficient and corrupt - and that its network of channels and radio stations cost the country 300 million euros a year.<br/> <br />Prime Minister Antonio Samaras i
