Firefighters battle UK plant blaze

British firefighters continued to battle a huge blaze at a plastics recycling plant in England on Monday in an incident which began on Sunday night.<br/> <br />Senior fire officers confirmed that Chinese lanterns were the cause of the fire at the Jayplas depot, which produced a 6,000 ft pall of smoke.<br/> <br />Some 200 firefighters were called to the plant in Smethwick, with three of them later taken to hospital.<br/> <br />Around 100,000 tonnes of recycling material were involved in the fire.<br/> <br />There are now calls for an urgent review into the use of Chinese lanterns after the blaze, which caused £6 million worth of damage to the recycling centre.
