Parisians dress as embryos to protest stem cell bill

ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />STORY: Demonstrators dressed up as embryos gathered outside the French parliament in Paris on Thursday to protest a draft law aimed at authorizing scientific research on human embryonic stem cells.<br/> <br />French Members of Parliament resumed on Wednesday discussions on a bill that proposes to authorize, under certain conditions, scientific research on embryos and embryonic stem cells, despite strong opposition from right-wing politicians.<br/> <br />A law dating back to 2011 bans conducting research on embryos but with some exemptions.<br/> <br />As discussions on the bill got underway in the National Assembly on Thursday, some 200 demonstrators staged a protest outside, against the law which they say is unjustified, unethical and only profitable to the pharmaceutical industry.<br/> <br />MPs will vote on the bill on July 16.
