Son of Chinese notables denies gang rape

Facing rape allegations, the son of a prominent Chinese figure goes on trial at this court in Beijing Wednesday.<br/> <br />Seventeen-year-old Li Tianyi is among five men accused of gang raping a woman in a Beijing hotel last February.<br/> <br />His father General Li Shuangjiang and his mother are both famous singers for the People's Liberation Army.<br/> <br />The trial's being held behind closed doors -- but two state-run newspapers have blogged that Li has denied the charges.<br/> <br />They report that Li told the court he was drunk at the time of the alleged incident and had no knowledge of an assault.<br/> <br />This is not Li's first brush with the law.<br/> <br />He was sentenced to a year in juvenile detention for crashing his BMW into another car in 2011 and beating up the couple inside.<br/> <br />The case has inflamed public anger and drawn attention to China's political aristocrats who are widely viewed as corrupt and above the law.
