School children hospitalised after gas leak

A gas leak from a nearby business complex forced two schools in Brisbane to evacuate Thursday.<br/> <br />Fire and rescue personnel were on the scene to treat the some 60 victims for nausea and vomiting.<br/> <br />Officials said the fumes were not dangerous and were not expected to cause any serious medical conditions.<br/> <br />(SOUNDBITE)(English) QUEENSLAND STATE FIRE AND RESCUE SERVICE ACTING CHIEF SUPERINTENDENT, KEVIN WALSH SAYING:<br/> <br />"It appears that there has been a release of a stenching agent, a type of agent that's used with natural gas to give it a distinctive smell, so obviously in high concentrated release of a minor amount, that smell goes across the suburbs and it's travelled as far as 6 to 7 km (3.7 - 4.3 miles) away. But the good news is that there's no indication and there's no concerns for any type of serious medical condition."<br/> <br />Local media say at least six children were taken to hospital for treatment.
