ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)<br/> <br />STORY: Spanish firefighters struggled to contain two forest fires as flames threatened houses in the north western part of the country.<br/> <br />According to the regional government, the fires have burned 3,500 acres (1,400 hectares) in the villages of Carnota and Negreira.<br/> <br />Both fires started on Wednesday night and remained active on Thursday.<br/> <br />Emergency services have risen the alarm level to the highest degree for both fires.<br/> <br />The cause of the fires remains unknown. There was no immediate information about evacuated people.<br/> <br />The area has already suffered a number of forest fires in various regions this year. Around 10,800 hectares of land were destroyed in the first nine months of 2013.
