At least five people lost their lives when a car packed with explosives was detonated in this Shi'ite district of eastern Baghdad.<br/> <br />Police said another 17 were wounded in the blast on Sunday.<br/> <br />At about the same time another bomb went off at a street cafe in the northern, Al Shuala district which is also mainly Shi'ite.<br/> <br />At least two people were killed and ten more wounded.<br/> <br />The bombings were part of a wave of bloodshed across Iraq on Sunday as explosions and shootings claimed at least 36 lives.<br/> <br />There was no immediate claim of responsibility although Sunni Islamist insurgents have been regaining momentum in recent months.<br/> <br />The United Nations says about 800 Iraqis were killed in August.<br/> <br />More than a third of the deadly attacks happened in Baghdad.<br/> <br />Eighteen months after the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq there are fears of a return to the sectarian slaughter of the past when the monthly death toll sometimes passed 3, 000.
